Department of Physics has started undergraduate program in 1948 and post graduate program in 1971. Intake capacity at UG and PG level is 28 students. In last 40 years, the Physics department has produced about 850 PG students. The Physics department has satisfied the need of the teachers and lecturers of Institutions all across the Maharashtra state. Late professor V. P. Nene was the founder head of the Physics department whose contribution to the field of education was very high.
The built up area of this physics department is 9500 square feet. There are separate Laboratories for F. Y. B. Sc., S. Y. B. Sc., T. Y. B. Sc., MSc part I and II classes. Physics department has established its own ICT lab to provide unlimited free access to faculty members, Junior Research Fellows (JRF), B.Sc., M.Sc., M.P hil., and Ph.D. students. Limited access is also given to F. Y. B. Sc. And S. Y. B. Sc. Students. Few of our T. Y. B. Sc. and M.Sc. students have also achieved the first ranking at university level and awarded with gold medals also.
The Department of Physics is known for its commitment for providing quality education in the field of physics. The department boasts a team of experienced and dedicated faculty members who are passionate about teaching. The department has a strong faculty with expertise in various areas of physics, including solid-state physics, material science, nuclear physics, and electronics.
The department is equipped with modern laboratories that provide students with hands-on experience and facilitate research activities. The department encourages research activities and provides opportunities for students to engage in research projects under the guidance of faculty members. The department emphasizes practical learning through regular laboratory sessions and field trips. The department organizes industrial visits and guest lectures to provide students with exposure to the latest developments in the field of physics.
This physics department is recognized Research Centre for M.Phil. and Ph.D. students and so special separate Laboratories are available for research scholars. Some of the faculty members have been involved in active research. In the past, three major research projects (Funded by D.R.D.O. and D. I. T.) are completed and now two minor research projects are going on funded by RUSA. Naturally research papers/ articles in National/International reputed journals are published by research scholars. Now one research scholar (J. R. F.) Mr Sandeep Kashinath nerkar is working for his Ph.D. (CSIR- HRDG) under Dr Amit B Patil associate professor of our department.
Faculty members from the department are involved in institutional governance. Two of the faculty members Dr J. B. Patwardhan and Dr S. D. Bagul are nominated on Board of Studies in physics of Kaviyatri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon. Presently one of the faculty members is working as Vice Principal and Rector.
Overall, the Department of Physics at Pratap College, Amalner, is a well-regarded institution that provides a strong foundation in physics education and prepares students for successful careers in academia or industry.
